ESSAY 05
The End
An ending is another name for the next beginning.
Even the hard seasons end someday. A harder one may come next. But its difficulties will be different from the ones I face now. This season has a character all its own. The imperfect person I am, the people beside me, and the small joys I find here will never return in quite the same form.
At first, the thought of an ending brought relief: this hardship, too, would pass. But when I sat with that thought, I realized hardship is not the only thing that passes. The things I love, and the moments we laugh together, move on with that time as well.
So I want to ask myself:
While I wonder when this will end, how much of the present am I actually feeling? Am I so afraid of what has yet to come that I am missing what I can enjoy only today?
And before the end arrives, what can I do to make this moment feel more alive?
Hold my child and meet their eyes a little longer. Tell someone beside me how grateful I am. Take one small step toward something I have put off, or give my tired self a moment to rest. Perhaps savoring the present also means making small choices that bring this time more fully to life.
I do not have to force myself to love a difficult season. Still, I do not want to wish all of it away just because it is hard. I want to rest when I need to, laugh when I can, and share what is in my heart with the people who are here with me now.
I do not yet know what beginning awaits.
Before the end comes, I want to savor this moment as fully as I can. The end will come, and this moment will pass.
